The Federal Government has been urged to suspend the valuation automated custom duty on vehicles(VIN) to discourage motor dealer from venturing into smuggling.

The President of the association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria, Kwara state chapter , Alhaji Abdulhamid Dare- Abdul made the call while speaking with Journalists in Ilorin.

According to him the new policy if implemented is capable of pushing many car dealers into smuggling which might destroy the gains recorded in the automobile market.

He said the new system runs foul of the enabling law which the Nigeria Custom is using in its implementation.

Alhaji Dare-Abdul noted that the calls for the suspension of the policy pending its review will be beneficial to all parties.

He maintained that the implementation of this policy will automatically lead to geometrical hike in purchase of vehicles, which will grossly destabilize the gains already recorded in the automobile business.
