Kano State Reaffirms Commitment To Sponsor Mass Wedding

Kano state government says it will sponsor mass wedding of it’s indigenes, as part of efforts to uplift standard of living in the state.

Kano state Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Zahra’u Muhammad Umar made the disclosure during the wedding of 31 couples, organized by Daru’l Erkam foundation and federation of Muslim women’s association of Nigeria (FOMWAN), held in Kano.

According to the commissioner, preparations were in top gear to organize and sponsor weddings of unspecified number of couples in the state.

Dr. Zahra’u explained the mass wedding organized by the foundation as apt, due to the economic situation of the country.

She charged others to emulate the kind gesture and urged the couples to live in peace and harmony.

Earlier in her remarks, the Kano state Amira of FOMWAN Kano chapter, Malama Binta Muhammad said the couples were selected after careful scrutiny.

She pointed out that most of them were orphans and the less privileged whose weddings were postponed due to lack of furnitures and other house hold items.

Malama Binta, said FOMWAN would follow up to ensure that all the couples enjoy their marital life according to Islamic teachings.

Also speaking, the Commander General, Kano State Hisbah Board, Sheikh Dr. Harun Muhammad Sani Ibn Sina commended the foundation and FOMWAN for sponsoring the mass wedding.

Sheikh Ibn Sina who was represented by Malam Yahaya Alhassan, decried over rising cost of marriages, which necessitated the need for government and relevant stakeholders to assist the less Privileged.

The event attracted large turn out of government functionaries, Islamic scholars, families and well wishers of the couples who were tied in holy matrimony with a dowry of thirty thousand naira each.
