The Wazirin Katsina, Prof. Sani Abubakar Lugga has resigned his position as the deputy and Chief Adviser to the Emir.

Lugga sent his letter of resignation to the Katsina Emirate council while responding to a query over his comments on the security situation in the state earlier in the week in Ilorin.

He told journalists on February 14, Lugga, after participating as a Guest Speaker at a Strategic Management Retreat organized by the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution, that banditry and insurgency had resulted in the closure of all schools and other institutions in Katsina.

It was also reported that he stated that all district heads from Katsina’s eight frontlines LGAs had migrated to the state capital and that there had not been a single day in the last one and a half years when someone has not been killed or abducted in the state.

Lugga was quoted to have said:

“We are really in a state of war. It is more than conflict and the situation is more than you think. Forget about what you read in the media, I am there and I know the reality”

The media reported that this didn’t go down well with the Emirate which issued him a query.

The Professor replied to the three issues raised by the council and thereafter tendered his resignation.

He sent in his resignation letter along with the reply to the query.

A copy of the two-page letter was seen by our correspondent.

Prof. Lugga was turbaned the Wazirin Katsina in 2002 by the late Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Kabir Usman, and has served in that position ever since.
