National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has sensitized over five thousand Corps Members deployed to Taraba State on their enrollment into the National Health Insurance Scheme NHIS, with a call on them to key into the program to reduce some negative impact of lack of healthcare for the Corps Members.

The DG made the plea through the Deputy Director, Corps Welfare and Health Services at the NYSC Headquarters Abuja, Mrs. Agatha Okolo who represented him during the program held at the Taraba State Polytechnic Jalingo.

Maj. General Shu’aibu Ibrahim said the program which was a new initiative by the federal government was aimed at capturing Corps Members who may not have been allowed to assess free healthcare easily.

” The previous health initiative was for the Corps Members to treat themselves and bring receipts for NYSC to refund them, but now this is healthcare at their doorstep, they are to assess healthcare in their immediate locality, so it’s not going to be business as usual.”

The Director-General, however, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the laudable initiative of extending the NIHS gesture to the Corps Members, a program that is meant for the federal civil servants.

Maj. General Shu’aibu Ibrahim appealed to the Taraba State Government to complement the federal government’s efforts in taking care of the NYSC Corps Members deployed to the state by assisting the state NYSC Coordinator in other areas that are in need.

Earlier in his remarks, Taraba State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Anthony Nzoka said the program would go a long way in improving the performance of the Corps Members in the field, and called on them to utilize the opportunity by going through the processes to register.

Nzoka thanked federal government, appreciated the Director-General of NYSC and congratulated him over his promotion to the rank of the Maj. General in the Nigerian Army.

Some Corps Members who spoke in an interview, Ikwe Beladole, and Juliet Ologbo appreciated the NYSC DG for ensuring Corps Members are been incorporated into the NHIS and thanked federal government for the gesture.

Other speakers at the event were the Taraba State Coordinator of NHIS, Mr. Ezekiel Danjuma, while the sensitization lecture was delivered by the Senior Manager of NHIS, Taraba State office, Dr. Sani Yakubu
