Be Ready To Stop Work – ASUP Tells Members

Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics ASUP has asked its members to be ready to stop work at any time when the need arises.

The National President, Comrade Anderson Umezurike Ezeibe stated this while addressing members of the Union at Hussain Adamu Federal Polytechnic, Kazaure.

He said the ASUP had called off its industrial action on June 10th 2021 based on agreements reached with the Federal Government.

Comrade Anderson further explained that, part of the agreement include the release of 15 billion naira for revitalisation of polytechnics, Monotechnics and to release money for payment of the arrears of minimum wage, the inauguration of the governing council, and pay as you earned PAYE liability issue.

According to him, since when the agreement was reached, the Federal Government has fulfilled some while others not achieved.

Anderson pointed out that, despite the suspension of the strike, the revitalization funds were yet to be released after its approval by President Buhari as well as the minimum wage arrears.

He said the renegotiation document was still on and the renegotiation process of the agreement was also going on.

Comrade Anderson added that, strike is a legitimate instrument of engagement for Government failure to meet our demand.

 “Strike is a decision taken by National Executives, so any time we give a progress report, it doesn’t meet the approval and satisfaction of NEC and that strike became an option”~Anderson 

The National President noted that the NEC would take it’s possible decision on its next meeting to hold March 2022 in Mubi, Adamawa state.
