Kano State House of Assembly has adopted recommendations of the Adhoc Committee, in respect of petition against Tudun Wada Local Government Council by Fiya-Fiya Market Traders.

The adoption was sequel to a report presented by the chairman of the Adhoc Committee, Alhaji Umar Musa Gama during a plenary session presided over by the speaker, Alhaji Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari.

Alhaji Umar Musa Gama explained that in August 2021 the Fiya-Fiya Traders submitted a petition against Tudun Wada Local Government Council, alleging that they have been evicted from the market.

He said contrary to their claims only 15 traders out of 45 that signed the petition were affected while only two presented certificates of ownership.

The Chairman maintained that the committee had also discovered that, part of the market was used for criminal activities which prompted the local government council to seek a public-private partnership (PPP), to construct a new ultra-modern plaza with 85 shops at the market.

Alhaji Umar noted that the establishment of the modern market would go a long way in boosting the economy, through commercial activities as well as reducing unemployment. according to the cardinal objectives of the Ganduje led administration.

He said part of the seven recommendations includes, the provision of a temporary market for the traders before completion of the project, to consider the 15 affected traders during the allocation of shops at the plaza.

The chairman added that the house standing committee on local governments and chieftaincy affairs should be mandated to ensure compliance by the Tudun Wada Local Government Council.

After careful deliberations, the House adopted the report.

Radio Nigeria recalled that in August 2021, the State House of Assembly received a petition against Tudun Wada Local Government Council, alleging traders that have been conducting businesses for many years were evicted, despite being the legal owners of their shops.
