The Senate has passed the National Health Emergency Bill 2022.

This was sequel to the consideration of the Report from the Committee on Primary Health care and communicable disease.

In his presentation, the Chairman of the committee and Sponsor, Senator Chukwuka Utazi representing Enugu North said the bill provides a Legislative framework for the rules and guidelines to be applied in the event of an outbreak of infectious disease.

He explained that it would also provide the framework that will necessitate a declaration by the appropriate authority of a public health emergency.

According to Senator Utazi, major stakeholders in Health, Agriculture, and other sectors contributed to the Bill and expressed the hope that the Bill would be assented to by President Mohammadu Buhari to allow Nigerians to benefit from it.

Also at Plenary the Nigerian Metrological Agency act of 2003 repeal and re-enactment Bill 2022 was passed to provide for the regulation of Metrology-related matters.
