Over one hundred Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) have been rendered homeless as a result of a fire disaster at Gamborun Ngala camp, in Borno state.
The fire outbreak which occurred on Sunday evening completely destroyed 24 shelters which include 3 mudbrick shelters, 12 makeshift shelters, and 9 Emergency shelters.
An Official of Borno state Emergency Management Agency, SEMA in Gamborun Ngala, Malam Yusuf Gulumba told Radio Nigeria in an interview that the cause of the fire was yet to be established, but, an investigation had already commenced.
According to Malam Yusuf Gulumba, no life was lost due to the incident, however, very few people sustained minor injuries while trying to put out the fire.
He called on the Federal and Borno state governments to provide food and non-food items as well as shelter for the victims to address their immediate needs.
It’s in the record that the Gamborun Ngala camp has a population of over 40,000 IDPs and last witnessed such an incident In April 2019.
