The Area Controller of the Nigeria Custom Services in charge of Kano and Jigawa Command Suleiman Umar Pai says the Personnel of the service would not relent in crushing the Illegal activities of smugglers and other unpatriotic citizens who engage in the business of contraband items in Kano and Jigawa axis.
Suleiman Umar Pai Stated this while briefing Journalist on the scorecard of Nigeria Custom Service within the year under review, held in Kano.
He said the Command was able to intercept and made sueizures of contraband items worth over 776 Million Naira duty paid value within the last twelve months in Kano and Jigawa Command.
The custom boss explained that the seizures made includes 1040 Bags of foreign rice (50KG), 2,853 cartons of spaghetti, 189 cartons of couscous, 153 Bags (25 KG) of powder milk , 115 cartons of creamy milk ,132 Bales of second hand clothes ,89 cartons of foreign eva soap, 15 cartons of batteries ,110 cartons of macaroni and 339 pieces of donkey skins.
” In the Area of revenue Collection ,the Countinous efforts of the Command in sensitizing the public to Clear the Goods through Inland Terminals have yielded positive Results , from January to Date the Sum of Over 25 billion Naira was Raised Against the Sum of Over 24 Billion Naira that was Collected in the Year 2020″
The Area Controller noted that during the year under review, the Command has made a total of 398 seizures with duty paid value of over One Billion Naira.
“Some Suspects were Arrested in Connection with the Seizures ,some of whom were handed over to relevant agencies for Further investigation and Prosecution , Others Were Granted Administrative bail While the cases were still in Court”.
Suleiman Umar Pai noted that in an effort to boost the morale of the Personnel of the Nigeria Custom Service, the Comptroller General of the Service Colonel Hamid Ali (RTD) had delivered 5 units of Brand New Toyota Hilux Vehicles and 2 Units of Brand New Toyota Land Cruiser for an effective anti smuggling activities.
He reiterated the commitment of the agency in providing enabling enviroment for law abiding citizens who engage in legitimate businesses,adding that their doors would always be opened to assist for the betterment of the Nation.
