GBV : KDSG Committed To Curbing Domestic Violence, Others

Kaduna State government has reiterated commitment to end Gender Base Violence GBV for the development of adolescent across the state

The acting governor of the state, Dr Hadiza Balarabe stated this in her key keynote address at the high level sensitization on violence against persons prohibition (VAPP) Law implementation strategy for wives of Local government chairman and stakeholders held in Kaduna.

Dr Balarabe represented by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Hajiya Aisha Dikko said the event was organized by the state Ministry of Human Services and social development in partnership with women’s Right Advancement and Protection Alternative(WRAPA).

The Acting Governor said despite campaign by relevant stakeholders to address Gender Base Violence, effort remains extremely inadequate to achieve the desire objective, stressing that it was difficult for victims to seek legal redress.

Dr Hadiza Balarabe further explained that, the state government has paved way for more proactive approach in addressing gender based violence, revealing that, in September 2020, the government signed the amendment of panel code law, violence against persons prohibition law (VAPP) to provide harsher punishment for rape offender.

Also speaking, wife of kaduna state Governor Hajiya Haiza Isma El-rufai emphasized the need for quick prosecution of SGBV offenders which would serve as deterrent to others.

Hajiya Hadiza also stressed that, financial independence for women can serve as an another alternative to ending abusive relationship.

Mrs Comfort Amoe, member kaduna state house of Assembly emphasized on the need for more proactive measures to address the menace in the state.

In a remarks, Kaduna state Commissioner for human services and social development Hajiya Hafsat Baba called on the victims of Gender Base Violence to always speak out by breaking the culture of silence.

According to Hafsat Baba, traditional believe is one of the key issue that is stopping victims to speak out.

Hajiya Hafsat Baba reaffirmed that, the state government will not relent in its efforts in seeking justice for victims and punishment for Offender.
