Kano State House of Assembly Describes Allocation of N2 Bil to Ministry Inadequate

Kano state house of assembly has described the 2 billion naira allocated to the Kano state ministry of enviroment as inadequate due to climate change and other environmental factors.

The chairman house standing committee on enviroment Alhaji Musa Ali Kachako stated this while briefing newsmen shortly after the 2022 budget defence of the Kano state ministry of environment.

Alhaji Musa Ali Kachako said in view of the global challenges of climate change, drainage evacuation, flooding and other related environmental management issues, the budget set aside is unrealistic to fund projects across the state.

The committee chairman, explained that during bilateral discussions between the house standing committee and the Kano state ministry of enviroment, it was realised that most of the projects captured were under funded.

” Alhamdulillah we have discussed for more than 3 hours,trying to brainstorm and discuss on the way forward,what has transpaired during the last budget of 2021,what were the successes and problems and where are we heading to in the upcoming 2022 financial year”

He pointed out, that substantial amount has been set aside and justifications were made. Saying that the house would do everything possible to ensure that it becomes a reality.

Alhaji Musa Ali Kachako maintained that, preparations have reached advanced stage to expedite action on the speedy passage of the bill that will have way for the establishment of a new agency under the state ministry of enviroment to conform with the earlier agreement for the creation of a new map across 22 states including kano.

“Climate change is the recent development recorded as far as environment is concerned. Kano state have cued in as far as climate change is concerned”

Earlier speaking the permanent secretary of the Kano state ministry of enviroment, Alhaji Adamu Abdu Faragai appealed to the house to assist the ministry to achieve it’s objectives of keeping Kano clean through effective waste management, drainage clearance and evacuation among others.

Alhaji Adamu Abdu Faragai noted that the Kano state Government is passionate and dedicated to addressing issues of climate change which is a global phenomenon that has affected countries Nigeria inclusive.

He said as part of proactive measures to curtail flooding and other environmental hazards, the ministry had successfully conducted drainage clearance and evacuation across the 44 local government areas.

The permanent secretary added that the ministry had defended it’s budget of 2 billion naira.Saying that the review copy is with the ministry of planning and budget for further action.

“According to the budget presented by the executive governor 2 billion naira has been set aside for the environmental sector,and the mandate of the ministry of enviroment is primarily pollution control”
