Maintaining soil fertility and conservation has been described as a major pillar of increased crops production aimed at improving Agricultural production in the country.
The Head of Soil Science Department at Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Professor Nafi’u Abdu stated this during a one day Sensitization workshop organized by the
Nigerian institute of soil science (NISS) In collaboration with Agricultural Development Pprojects of Kaduna, Jigawa, Katsina and Kano States, Held at Kano Agricultural and Rural Development Authority KNARDA .
He said the workshop was aimed at training extension workers and farmers on managing and Conserving the soil for improved crop Production aimed at boosting agricultural Products.
Professor Nafi’u Abdu noted that the Sensitization workshop would acquaint the participants on integrated soil fertility Management as well as preventing soil Degregation .
“We want to train them on how to make maximum use of the soil so that Production of high yield would be Achieved”
The Head of Department added that failure to protect the soil was a great set back of the Agricultural sector, hence efforts needed to be put in place in ensuring that the stated goals were achieved.
In a remark the Managing Director of Kano agricultural and Rural Development Authority Dr Junaidu yakubu said the Sensitization workshop was very timely.
He said the Administration of Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje was working tirelessly in the aspect of Agricultural production geared towards producing enough food that would feed the Nation.
Isyaku Aliyu from kaduna State and Ibrahim Suleiman from Jigawa state were among the participants of the workshop, and said the training had enhance their capacity on Soil management, stressing that the gesture would play a great role in boosting Agricultural Production in the Country.
