KDSG Commences Adoption of IPSAS

Kaduna State government says the task of reforming the nation’s public service to achieve efficiency in service delivery can only be possible when public servants are well motivated, equipped and trained.

Deputy governor of the State, Dr Hadiza Balarabe stated this at the 5th Session of 2021 Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Programme and Induction organised by the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria held in Kaduna.

Dr Balarabe said the State government has begun the adoption of the International Public-Sector Accounting Standard IPSAS in its finance management reporting.

She stressed that, the aim was to improve transparency and accountability in public finance management and reporting.

“We commenced publishing the State’s audited financial report on annual basis from 2016, giving the public access to our books in keeping with our commitment to run an open and transparent government”

The Deputy governor described the theme for the program, “Re-Engineering the Accounting Profession in the Post COVID-19 Era” as apt, stressing that, proper and efficient functioning of institutions rely on the key and critical roles.

Dr Hadiza Balarabe further revealed that, the Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) programme was crucial for retooling, rebranding and re-equipping accountants to work smarter in this new and emerging world.

She commended the Executive of ANAN for keeping the vision of the association alive through developing the capacity of Nigerian Accountants since its inception in 1979.

Earlier, the President and Chairman of Council, Association of National Accountants of Nigerian, Professor Ben Osisioma reaffirmed the commitment of the Council in the training and retraining of their member to meet the current realities of economic development.

Professor Osisioma called on members to rise to the occasion of knowing everything in the profession, nothing that, accounting now is beyond debit and credit.

Professor Osisioma also said at the end of the two day event, they intend to inculcate skills and training in their members that would last for life time

“The world is now in the threshold of the fourth industrial revolution , we have the first, second and third industrial revolution and now in the forth “.

Dr Osisioma stressed that, the era of covid offered two options which is danger and opportunity.

According to him, the intention of the council was to ensure more qualified, skillful and members.

Also Speaking, the Chairman of Kaduna State branch, Association of National Accountants of Nigerian ANAN Mr Musa Duniya expressed appreciation to the Kaduna State government for all the support for the success of the council in the state.

Former governors of Kaduna State, Alhaji Ahmad Mohammed Makarfi and Dr Mukhtar Ramalan Yero as well as members of the council attended the event.
