Cholera Outbreak: Jigawa kicks-off Vaccination After 500 Deaths

Jigawa State Government in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health has flagged off the Cholera vaccination exercise as over 500 people died from the pandemic in the state.

Speaking, during the flagging off ceremony at Baranda Health facility in Dutse, the Executive Secretary of State Primary Healthcare Agency Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Chamo said, Jigawa had received 1.4 million dosages of the cholera vaccine from the federal ministry of health.

He explained that every eligible person required two dosages of the vaccine within the period of three months and have targeted 720,000 people for the exercise.

Dr. Kabiru Chamo said the exercise would be carried out in 3 local government areas, including Dutse, Birnin Kudu, and Hadejia.

He noted that people from one year and above were eligible for the vaccination and would be administered at designated health facilities and other selected public places for accessibility.

Dr. Kabiru assured the general public that, the vaccine was safe and reliable, while the state government had provided enough trained manpower and equipment required for the success of the exercise.

In a speech after taking the vaccine, the Emir of Dutse Dr. Nuhu Muhammadu Sunusi urged the general public to accept the vaccine as its efficiency is of no doubt.

According to the report from the state ministry of health, over 500 people died while over 20,000 were infected from the cholera outbreak which started in the state from June to September this year.
