Jigawa state government says it has established over 160 learning centres in some selected communities to teach both Islamic and western education in order to reduce the level of illiteracy in the communities.

The state Commissioner of education, science and technology Dr Lawan Yunusa Danzomo disclosed this to newsmen in Dutse.

According to him, the present administration has injected a lot of resources into the development of the education sector.

Dr Lawan Yunusa Danzomo said over 10 Billion naira was earmarked in the 2021 appropriation bill representing 33 percent of the total budget.

He further explained that, the state government has also spent 16 billion naira on construction, renovation of class rooms as well as other infrastructures in the basic education sector.

He said over 185,000 students seats and 5,963 teacher’s seat were also procured and distributed to both primary and secondary schools across the 27 local government area of the state.

The Commissioner pointed out that, the state government had constructed over 250 staff accommodation in hard to reach areas for teachers in order to provide the required services.

Danzomo added that, the home-grown school feeding program have also led to increase in student’s enrollment with over 20 percent in the state.

The education boss noted that, over 220 motorcycles were distributed to local education supervisors across the state to ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of schools performance.
