CSOs Evolve Strategies To Address Poverty, Others

Civil Society Organizations in Kaduna State have developed efficient practical strategies to engage government functionaries for effective implementation and enactment of Social Protection law in the state.


The Chairperson, Kaduna State Social Protection Accountabilty Coalition Ms Jessica Bartholomew made this known at a seminar on Expanding Social Protection for Inclusive Development with support from Save the Children International.

She explained that the coalition has set the ball rolling for the past two years, when it carried out several advocacy exercises to government Ministries, Agencies and Departments as well as media campaigns and grassroots mobilization on successful implementation of social protection programs for the benefit of vulnerable groups and individuals.

Ms. Jessica Bartholomew expressed optimism that the bill on Social Protection will soon be submitted by the state governor to the House of assembly for deliberation.

According to her, the main objectives of KADSPAC is to support effective implementation of social protection programmes, engage government, release of finance, transparency, and the strengthening of civil society and media engagement towards curtailing vulnerabilities and poverty reduction.

In a remark, Senior Policy and Advocacy Specialist of Save the Children International, Mr. Saheed Mustapha expressed determination of the organization to strengthening Social Protection Programmes in Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano and Jigawa, with a focused on continuous support to the Federal and State government to improve Social Protection Programmes.

Mr. Saheed emphasized that the basic expectation of the ongoing programme is to see how many Nigerians were able to come out of poverty through government support in institutionalizing social protection programs.
