Jigawa State Government says it has sponsored 210 students to the Republic of the Sudan to study medicine.

The state Deputy Governor, Mallam Umar Namadi, made this known when the President of the Nigerian Guild of Editors  NGE Mustapha Isah and members of the standing committee paid him a courtesy visit at government House Dutse.

He said the aim of the sponsorship, was to bridge the existing gap of manpower in the health sector for effective service delivery.

Umar Namadi said the students after graduation would be expected to work in their various localities for a stipulated time.

According to him, the state government plans to deploy at least one medical doctor to each health facility in all the rural communities.

He said that certain measures had been taken by the state government to enhance its educational system by equipping schools and improving performance of students.

Mallam Umar Namadi further explained that the state government has done a lot in the area of road infrastructure, pointing out that the state  is among the best performer in terms of road infrastructure in the country.

Earlier, the NGE president Mustapha Isah said the standing Committee of the Guild was in Dutse to hold its meeting and commended the state government for its achievements in the areas of infrastructure.
