Late Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi

Former first lady, Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi is dead.

Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, who served as First Lady between January and July 1966, was 97.

She died at the Federal Medical Centre, Umuahia in Abia State on Monday morning.

Her husband who was the Supreme Commander of the Military Government was killed on July 29, 1966.

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari has extended condolences to the Aguiyi-Ironsi family, and government and the people of Abia State on the passing.

According to a statement by Presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, said, President Buhari praised Lady Victoria’s strength and exceptional courage during one of the darkest moments in the nation’s history.
