As part of the process of developing an oxygen policy for states, the international donor partners- Save the Children has organised a three day stakeholders consultative workshop for adoption of the National Policy on medical oxygen in health faculties in Jigawa state.

Speaking during the workshop, the Minister of Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire commended Jigawa State for the effort to domescate the national policy on medical Oxygen in health facilities.

Represented by the  Oxygen desk officer, department of hospital services, federal ministry of health, Mr. Bishara Emmanuel Bennett explained that Jigawa state was the first in the country in an attempt to domesticate the national policy on medical Oxygen.

He said federal government attached much importance to the policy towards improving the quality of healthcare service delivery in the country.

Dr. Osagie Ehanire also commended Save the Children International for organizing the workshop, saying it would speed up domestication, adoption and implementation of the policy in jigawa.

Also speaking, the chief of party INSPIRING project, Dr Isah Adamu said the project was under Save the Children International with support of the GlaxoSmithKline organized the workshop.

Dr Isah Adamu added that the organization realized the need for oxygen in hospitals during Covid-19 where most of health facilities lacks oxygen.

He said Save the Children was also working on pneumonia control and already provided an oxygen therapy in Dutse, Kiyawa, Katanga hospitals in the state.

Some of the participants Dr Yahuza Umar from Gwaram cottage hospital and Dr Zainab Farouk from JICHMA who spoke to Radio Nigeria, commended Save the Children for organizing the workshop.
