The Kebbi State government risks loosing the two Command Secondary Schools established by the military in the state for failure to sign Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the military for running the schools.
The Army Education Corps Commander, Major General Mohammed Lawal Augie, who disclosed this during a courtesy visit on the State Deputy Governor in Birnin Kebbi said the Command Girls Secondary School in Birnin Kebbi and the Command Secondary School Jega, would be closed down if the state government failed to be steadfast in formalizing the establishment of the schools with the military.
Major General Mohammed Augie, said it was the death of the former Chief Of Army Staff Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru that halted the process that would have led to the close down of the two schools in the state.
According to him, the immediate past late Chief Of Army Staff Lt. General Ibrahim Attahiru had prior to his death wanted to carry out a verification of all Command schools with a view to find out those operating without a legal frame work by way of an MoU with the military.
“The Command schools in Jega and Birnin Kebbi will have been closed down for not entering into MoU”.
He said the schools are part of the military welfare for its personnel but majority of those that benefit from the institutions are civilians.
Responding, Kebbi State Deputy Governor, Rtd. Colonel Ismaila Yombe Dabai, commended the military for establishing such schools in the state and assured that the state government would not fold its arms and watch the collapse of the schools.
