House of Representatives says the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC is the only legitimate institution to determine transmission of election results in Nigeria.

House spokesperson, Mr Benjamin Kalu stated this while addressing newsmen at the National Assembly complex Abuja.

Mr Benjamin Kalu, explained that the real issue that threw the house into a rowdy session was the disagreement in clause 52 sub (2) of the bill which is on electronic transmission of election results.

The house spokesperson, said in order not to disenfranchise people, the House invited the Nigerian Communications Commission NCC to shed more light on the matter where they attributed lack of capacity to carry every vote cast electronically throughout the country as the major obstacle.

He emphasized that what is important is every vote cast during any election in the country should count by being counted and recorded after the end of each voting exercise.

The house also adopted the contentious 3% fund for oil producing communities as recommend by the upper chamber to pass the bill for the growth of the oil sector.

The lawmaker said that the PIB has been passed because it is better to pass it than delay it for a consensus to be reached on the differential between 3% and 5% for the host communities.
