A Non Governmental Organisation, Save the Children has taken the campaign against pneumonia to girls schools in Jigawa state as the disease continued to kill over 160,000 children annually in Nigeria.

Correspondent Usman Mohammed who accompanied the team to some of the schools, reports that the outing featured enlightenment campaigns against the disease.

While at Government Girls Secondary School Kudai in Dutse, the state capital, Save Children team at a program tagged ” Inspiring Project”, organized a Quiz competition and Debate for students on the prevalence of Pneumonia and Malaria.

Usman Mohammed explained that the students debated extensively the subject matter with reference and statistics of the deaths recorded annually from the two diseases.

Speaking at the end of the debate, the state Program Manager ” Inspiring  Project” Alhaji Abdullahi Magama said, the aim of the campaign against pneumonia to students in schools was to create awareness about the disease.

He said students have a great role to play in creating public awareness on any health issue considering the number and closeness to the parents and larger society.

In her remark, the principal Government Girls Secondary School Kudai, Hajiya Aisha Abubakar expressed gratitude to Inspiring Project for choosing her school to be among the pilot for public enlightenment against Pneumonia.

She said, the students had again alot during the campaigns which include promoting health awareness and academic excellent.

Gifts were presented to the best students after the debate.
