House of Representatives is to articulate strategic legal framework to harness National potential for economic sustainability and growth.

The Speaker House of representatives Mr. Femi Gbajabiamila, stated this during a public hearing by the Committee on National Planning and Economic Development at the Assembly complex in Abuja.

Represented by the Deputy Minority Leader of the House, Mr. Toby Okechukwu, the Speaker emphasized the need for long term plan for Nigeria to overcome the effect of global economic challenges posed by Covid-19 Pandemic.

Earlier, the Chairman House Committee on National Planning, Mr. AbdulGaniyu Oladodo said the hearing followed the referral of two bills during proceeding on the need for Nigeria to develop a long term social and economic development framework vision.

Mr Abdulganiyyu Oladodo, explained that the bills under consideration was to prepare Nigeria for emergencies that would lead it to economic prosperity.

Speaking, the Minister of State, National Planning, Mr Clem Ikanade Agba, said government through the ministry already drew a framework for Nigeria’s post oil economic growth that would give priority to agriculture in line with its diversification policies.

Mr Clem Agba, also confirmed that the APC administration had constituted a committee consisting Representatives from different political parties and other econmists to make input on how to develop a legal framework that would prepare the nation against further economic melt down.

Stakeholders at the event stressed the need for review of the country’s education system as well as a comprehensive man power plan, to drive the implementation of the proposed National Development Plan.
