The Market on Fire

Over 100 Armed Bandits have open fire at Yartashar Sahabi Market, under Dansadau Emirate in Maru Local Government area of Zamfara State killing one person, injured many and set the market ablaze.

An eye witness who pleaded anonymity said the bandits took positions and sorrounded the market square, began shooting sporadically on air and despassed traders who are busy doing their business during market day in the village.

He explained that, during the attack, many people injured as a result of stampedes to escape from the Bandits attack in the market.

Accordimg to him, the residents locked themselves inside their houses while the bandits went away with food items worth millions of Naira belonging to the traders during the attack before they later set the market on fire.

The resident further stated that the bandits after looting some food items set almost all the stalls of the market including some provisions belonging to traders on fire and run to the bush after sighting the Mobile Police attached to Operation PurpAdder.

Radio Nigeria reports that, Governor Bello Matawalle had earlier last year initiated peace reconciliation process with Bandits group which is currently ongoing in the state but some are yet to be repent.

Meanwhile, efforts to reach the spokesperson of the state police command SP. Muhammad Shehu proved abortive as his telephone numbers was switched off.
