Borno state government says it has no plan to increase tax rate among citizens engaged in activities from different sectors of the economy.

This is coming against the backdrop of concern raised by people of the state over the enforcement of new tax policy in the transportation and business sectors.

At a media briefing in Maiduguri, Chairman, State Revenue Service, Mohammed Alkali said the Board is mindful of the economic stress citizens and business owners operating in the state face amidst the insurgency and covid-19 pandemic.

He however explained that different initiatives have been advanced to raise the level of compliance among tax payers in terms of remittances to boost the revenue yield.

According to the Chairman, new technological initiatives have been deployed in the revenue and tax collection system to block leakages in the formal and informal sectors.

“The harmonised revenue law has been passed by the state assembly where 3 new taxes have been introduced. The consumption tax, entertainment levy and presumptive tax to enable government implement more development projects across the state”.

Alhaji Mohammed Alkali urged residents of the state to always try and meet up with their tax requirement to rebuild the state ravaged by insurgency.
