House of Representatives has advocated adequate security personnel at the campuses of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, University of Abuja and other tertiary institutions across the country.
This followed a motion of urgent national importance by a member from Kaduna State, Alhaji Garba Datti, on the need to address Security threats posed by the phenomenon of banditry at the Campuses Of tertiary institutions in the Nation.
Alhaji Garba Datti said the state of insecurity in Nigeria has been a matter of grave concern to all well meaning patriots for several years now which required drastic approach by the authorities concern.
The lawmaker maintained that, the recent state of insecurity in Kaduna State has degenerated to alarming levels in spite of the efforts of Government to put an end to the mayhem.
Mover of the motion noted that, activities of armed bandits, particularly abductions of the staff of Ahmadu Bello University and Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic Zaria as well as students and other members of the community have reached perilous levels and remain unabated.
Most of the lawmaker who contributed on the motion, urged the Federal Government to urgently erect a secured wall round the campuses of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria as done for the University of Maiduguri and Gwagwalada campus of the University of Abuja to forestall incursions from miscreants.
The House also called on the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Army Staff to create formations in the Universities vicinities for quick response to any attack by bandits.
