kano state police command has arrested a 21 year old Kabiru Mahmud with 49 parcels of marijuana popularly known as Indian hemp

The police spokesperson Abdullahi Kiyawa stated this while parading the suspect and the siezed items at the police headquarters Bompai, kano.

He said the suspect was arrested while evacuating the substance from his family home at Gadonkaya quarters to a hiding place at Danbire village, an outskirt of Kano metropolis.

Abdullahi Kiyawa explained that the command had received an intelligent report from good Samaritan of a young man carrying sacks believed to be Indian helms.

“Immediately, the Commissioner of police Habu A. Sani mobilized operation Puff Adder under O/C Anti Daba Bashir Muhammad Gwadabe to arrest the suspect,”

According to him, police have also arrested Mr Mahmud’s uncle and his mother who directed him to move the parcels from her matrimonial home at Gadonkaya quarters to Danbire.

The suspect, Mahmud told police that on the fateful day, ”his mother called and informed him that his father was arrested with indian helm, that he should come and get rid of cannabis kept at home in anticipation of police arrival for investigation”.

Accepting the charges labeled against him, Mr Mahmud told police that his father was in Indian helms business for about twenty years.

The police spokesperson said the state Commissioner of Police had directed the case be transfer to CID for further investigation with a view to finding out the source of the substance and how it was smuggled to Kano.
