Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Social Development and Disaster Management, has achieved fifty nine percent in the implementation of it’s 2020 budget estimate.

The Minister Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq announced this during the 2021 budget defence of the ministry before the House of Representatives committee on humanitarian Affairs in Abuja.

Hajiya Sadiya Umar, explained that the sum of over N4bn was allocated to the ministry in the 2020 budget and later revised downward to N3bn.

She said the revised budget estimate of the ministry in 2020 comprises the sum of N343 million as recurrent expenditure while about N3billion has been earmarked for capital expenditures.

The Minister further confirmed that the sum of N551 million naira was released for COVID-19 interventions from the existing budgetary allocation in the ministry’s 2020 budget.

She also stated that at no point was she given cash to distribute as palliatives, adding that what was given as cash was from an existing programme.

Speaking during the budget defence, a member from Katsina State, Alhaji Fatihu Muhammad lauded the ministry role in improving the lives of IDPs and less privileged in the society.

Alhaji Fatihu Muhammad also advised the minister to create additional offices either at the states or Geo Political zones to enable them assist in reaching Nigerians within a short period of time.
