Niger state government has ordered for the immediate suspension of all mining activities in two local government areas of the state.

They are Shiroro and Paikoro local government areas.

The suspension is contained in a statement issued to Newsmen in Minna by Secretary to the State Government, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane.

According to the statement, the suspension underscores breakdown of security and environmental hazards.

It however revealed that government had to be decisive as environmental degredation and insecurity caused by activities of illegal miners had reached an alarming proportion.

This therefore he said require urgent step towards bringing sanity in the affected local government areas.

Ibrahim Matane maintained that protecting the sanctity of life and prosperity of people of Niger state remained sacrosanct.

It however added that Niget state government would not scale down the presure on armed banditry, cattle rustlers, kidnappers and illegal miners until they are totally flushed out from the state.
