Kaduna State Government has evacuated 35,000 Almajirai children to 17 states and some neighboring countries.

Commissioner for Human Services and Social Development, Hafsat Baba made this known in Kaduna.

She said the state equally received more than 1,000 Almajirai from other states.

The Commissioner explained that the measure was part of government’s effort to ensure that all the children receive proper care under their parents.

Hafsat Baba confirmed that with the support of UNICEF, the Ministry was documenting, counseling, and providing basic healthcare to the Almajirai evacuated from other states.

She said some of the Almajirai had skin diseases and other ailments that needed to be treated before reuniting them with their parents.

According to Hafsat Baba, enrolling the children into school was the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, but the Ministry of Human Services was currently assessing the state of Tsangaya schools across the state to determine their proximity and suitability for Quranic and western education.

The commissioner said, government would continue to take delivery of every almajiri indigenous to the state.

She also added that the ministry would equally continue to engage traditional leaders and relevant stakeholders for them to understand the need for children to be taken care of by their parents.
