Abductions : Reps Directs IGP To Investigate Missing Engineers In Ebonyi State

House of Representatives has directed the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba Alkali to investigate the disappearance of five consultant engineers reportedly abducted in Ohaukwu area of Ebonyi State.

This directive followed a motion by a member from Anambra State Mr Ifeanyi Momah, adopted during the house plenary.

Mr Ifeanyi Momah, while presenting the motion said in November this year, five Engineers supervising the Abakiliki Ring Road Project were abducted at Onu-Nwenewo village in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The lawmaker explained that the abductees supervising a project valued at 150 million dollars financed by the African Development Bank (AfDB) were allegedly declared dead and buried by the Ebinyi State Government during a security summit without consulting the families of the victims.

He emphasized that the Ebonyi State Government has been accused of being complicit in the disappearance of the engineers as the governor was alleged to have been hostile towards the consultants and tried severally to interfere in their operations.

Mover of the motion equally, appealed to the house to liase with relevant authorities to ensure that justice was served in the matter to clear all doubts.

Adopting the motion, the House mandated its Committee on Police Affairs to ensure compliance.
