Speaker of the Kano state House of Assembly, Engineer Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari has reiterated the state government’s commitment in providing free and compulsory education as well as effective health care delivery.

Engineer Chidari stated this at the end of a 3-day retreat organized by the Kano House of Assembly to review the child protection bill 2021 held in Kaduna.

He explained that the state government had mapped out strategies to ensure child development through free maternal neo-natal and post natal services to pregnant women from conception to delivery.

The speaker noted that the House in collaboration with donor agencies had scrutinized the draft bill to ensure that it is in conformity with the shari’a legal system as well as the values and cultures of the people.

He said the legislators would expedite action to ensure the smooth passage of the bill.

In her remarks, State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Dr Zahra’u Muhammad Umar maintained that, when passed into law,the child protection bill would protect the welfare of children against all forms of labour and molestation.

She added that the law would also ensure the prosecution of each and every person found guilty of exploiting under age children.
