The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Zamfara State Command, has arrested a 25-year-old man, Bala Abubakar, over alleged human trafficking and child labour in Gusau, the state capital.
The Head of the Public Relations Unit of the Command, ASCI Umar Mohammad, disclosed this while parading the suspect in Gusau on behalf of the State Commandant, Sani Mustapha.
He said the suspect was intercepted by NSCDC operatives in the Lalan area of Gusau at about 8:30 p.m. on October 15, 2026, during which two 13-year-old girls were rescued.
The rescued girls, identified as Amira Baje Ibrahim and Haulatu Shaibu, are both indigenes of Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to Umar Mohammad, preliminary investigations revealed that the victims were allegedly being trafficked from Shinkafi Local Government Area and were to be handed over to two individuals identified as Hadiza and Bara’atu in Suleja, Niger State.
Following the operation, the State Commandant, Sani Mustapha, directed the immediate transfer of the case to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and necessary legal action.
The NSCDC spokesman reiterated the Corps’ zero-tolerance stance on criminal activities, child labour and human rights violations, assuring the public that suspects apprehended in connection with such offences would be subjected to thorough investigations and prosecuted in a competent court of law where necessary.
He also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to security agencies to help combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable children across the state.
