The member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency and Chairman House Committee on House Services, Mr. Daniel Amos has commended Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, following President Bola Tinubu’s assent to the bill upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, to a federal university.

The institution will now be known as the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna.

The new law repeals the existing legislation establishing the polytechnic.

Speaking on Friday, Amos described the development as historic, noting that it marked a significant milestone in the advancement of technical and vocational education in Kaduna State and Nigeria at large.

“Speaker Tajudeen’s leadership on this bill demonstrates purposeful commitment to education and national development,” Amos said.

According to the lawmaker, the new Act will reposition technical and vocational education, promote skills acquisition and accelerate national development by expanding opportunities for higher education and practical training.

Amos also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for assenting to the bill, as well as a similar legislation establishing the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Yaba, Lagos, sponsored by the Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The lawmaker congratulated the people of Kaduna State, alongside the management, staff and students of the former Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, on the development.

He further assured them that the House of Representatives would continue to support efforts to ensure the smooth take-off and effective operation of the new university.

The establishment of the university is expected to create opportunities for increased federal funding, expanded degree programmes, enhanced research capacity and improved graduate employability in Kaduna State and the surrounding region.
