The Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunisation and Nutrition (ACOMIN), Taraba State chapter, has called for stronger community awareness on malaria services and improved access to Tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis and care.

The call was made on Wednesday October 14, 2026, during separate advocacy visits to the Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI), Taraba State, and the Taraba State TB Control Programme under the Global Fund GC7 Community-Led Monitoring (CLM) Project.

At the JNI, the team raised concerns over low awareness of free, Global Fund-supported malaria commodities among pregnant women and caregivers of children under five in Takum, Bali, Kurmi and Donga Local Government Areas.

Team Lead, Alhaji Muhammad T. Danburam, urged JNI to leverage its religious structures to create demand and increase service uptake among pregnant women and children under five.

Responding, the State Chairman of JNI, who is also the Chief Imam of Central Mosque Jalingo, Imam Muhyiddeen Muhammad Dinga, welcomed the appeal and pledged to enlighten the Muslims ummah.

He also promised to encourage Imams of other mosques across the 16 LGAs to educate their congregations during Friday sermons and other religious gatherings to achieve the desired objectives.

At the TB Control Programme, the team presented community-reported concerns, including delay in TB test results at Chanchanji Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) in Takum LGA, and shortage of sputum collection cups at Ndaforo PHCC in Kurmi LGA.

The team called for prompt investigation and timely action to ensure clients receive appropriate care without avoidable delays.

Responding on behalf of the programme, the DR-TB Focal Person, Mr. Bala Yusuf, assured that the office will investigate the issues and respond accordingly.
