The Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has commenced training for 75 social mobilisation officers from the state and local governments on the effective use of School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) operational documents.

The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Professor Nasiru Garba Anka, stated this at the flag-off ceremony of the training in Gusau.

Represented by Permanent Member One of the Board, Dahiru Shehu Madawaki, Professor Anka said the training was aimed at strengthening the capacity of social mobilisation officers to improve access, community participation and the quality of basic education in the state.

He described the officers as a vital link between government, schools, parents, communities and other education stakeholders, urging them to use the training to strengthen community engagement and support educational programmes.

Also speaking, the Zamfara State UBEC Coordinator, Tanimu Abdulkadir, called for stronger community participation in school management, saying active SBMCs could help improve the quality of basic education.

He identified the high number of out-of-school children as one of the major challenges facing the state, urging social mobilisation officers to encourage parents to enrol and keep their children in school.

Earlier, the Director of Social Mobilisation at ZSUBEB, Usman Gumi, said about 4,500 out-of-school children were being targeted for enrolment under the board’s ongoing social mobilisation campaign.

Gumi said eligible children enrolled through the programme would receive a ₦20,000 conditional incentive to encourage regular school attendance, clarifying that the payment was not a monthly allowance but a one-time conditional support for eligible learners.
