The Nigerian Navy has inaugurated Special Intervention Quick Impact Projects at Gidan Mutum Daya community in Kusada Local Government Area of Katsina State, comprising the provision of a 10,000-litre-capacity solar-powered borehole, rehabilitation of a community secondary school and provision of teaching and learning facilities at the school.
The projects, designed to improve learning conditions and access to basic amenities while strengthening civil-military relations, were launched by the Katsina State Deputy Governor, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, on behalf of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda.
In his speech at the occasion, the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, represented by a Director at the Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Adamu Yahaya, congratulated the Gidan Mutum Daya community on the intervention.
He listed the intervention to include comprehensive renovation of the Community Day Secondary School, provision of classroom desks, additional toilet facilities and white marker boards, as well as a 10,000-litre solar-powered borehole to improve water supply, sanitation and hygiene.
Students of the school also received reading and writing materials, mathematical sets, school bags and other learning materials.
Vice Admiral Abbas expressed optimism that the projects will make the school environment more conducive for students and teachers, promote environmental hygiene and boost the overall academic performance of students.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to strengthening civil-military cooperation through interventions that address the needs of communities in the education, health, basic infrastructure and water sanitation and hygiene.
The Naval Chief noted that the projects were executed under the Chief of the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Projects initiative in honour of Rear Admiral Aminu Abdullahi, an indigene of the community.
Speaking on the intervention, Rear Admiral Abdullahi said the projects were carefully selected based on the identified needs of Gidan Mutum Daya community while urging residents to judiciously utilise and maintain the facilities.
“The initiative is aimed at strengthening the bond of trust between the Nigerian Navy and the people, as building robust civil-military cooperation remains an important component of the Navy’s engagement with communities since 2004”, he said.
In his remarks, Governor Dikko Radda commended the Nigerian Navy for complementing the state government’s efforts at improving educational standards and providing basic infrastructure to communities, noting that the state government has invested more than ₦30 billion in security-related interventions and will continue to support security agencies in their efforts to protect lives and property in the state.
Represented by his Deputy, Malam Faruk Jobe, Govenor Radda highlighted the administration’s interventions in the education sector, stressing the importance of collaboration between sub-national governments and security agencies in creating a safe and conducive environment for teaching and learning.
