Kano State House of Assembly has passed into law the Kano State Education Bill 2026, aimed at revitalising and improving the education system across the state.

The House also passed the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta Amendment Bill 2026.

The two bills were passed during plenary presided over by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore.

Presenting the Kano State Education Bill 2026, the Majority Leader and Member representing Dala Constituency, Lawan Husaini, said the legislation repeals the long-standing Education Law of 1964.

He said the new law provides a comprehensive legal framework for the sustainable development of education in the state.

According to him, the law clearly defines the structure of upper and lower basic education, while providing for the expansion of science and technology education at various levels of learning.

Lawan Husaini said the legislation also establishes guidelines for the establishment and operation of educational institutions, including private, nursery and primary schools.

He added that it clearly defines the jurisdiction and responsibilities of the Commissioner for Education in regulating such institutions.

On the Audu Bako College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Dambatta Amendment Bill 2026, the Majority Leader explained that the legislation formally changes the institution’s name to reflect its expanded educational mandate.

He said the amendment provides a legal framework for the college to introduce science and technology programmes and seek approval and accreditation from the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE, alongside its existing agricultural programmes.

The house adjourned ita sitting to Monday 14th September 2026.
