The Chairman of Yankwashi Local Government Area, Malam Shuaibu Usman Adam, says the construction of a Primary Health Centre in Ruruma town by the local council is aimed at bringing healthcare services closer to communities in hard-to-reach areas.
He made the remarks while speaking during the visit of the Jigawa State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government to Yankwashi Local Government Area.
Malam Shuaibu Usman explained that core healthcare services such as laboratory test, antenatal care and delivery along with drugs are made available for the health needs of the rural communities.
He pointed out that an enabling environment including a midwife quarters was provided to health personnel to allow them work with ease within a rural setting.
Shuaibu Usman Adam stated that six new health posts were established in different locations provided with medical equipment and drugs to cater for the health needs of the rural populace while existing health centers and health posts will be upgraded to conform with emerging health challenges.
He described improved healthcare service delivery as one of the cardinal principle of his administration in view of the importance of healthy condition to the socioeconomic development of any society.
He said his intention is to ensure the establishment of a standard health facility within every five kilometers of Yankwashi local government area by the end of his first 3 year tenure to drastically reduce the negative effect of lack of access to healthcare service delivery which lead to maternal mortality and suffering from diseases among rural communities especially in hard to reach areas.
Conducting the entourage round the health facility, Ruruma Primary Health Center In-Charge, Ibrahim Abdulkareem said the health center provides 24 hour services with a visiting Medical Doctor once a week.
He said the health center received an average of 1,460 patients per month while patients from neagbouring Kazaure, Babura and Baure from Katsina state also patronized the health center and stressed the need for additional maternity bed to strengthen safe delivery.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Sub-committee Number 2 of the Jigawa state House of Assembly Committee on Local Government Alhaji Ibrahim Hashim Kanya described the projects executed by the Chairman of Yankwashi Local Government Council as a clear sign of quality leadership and good governance.
Ibrahim Hashim Kanya urged local government council chairmen across the state to emulate their ‘Yankwashi counterpart in the execution of projects that will impact positively on the lives of their people while leaving behind them a legacy to be remembered among future generations.
