The Kano State Health Trust Fund, KHETFUND, has conducted post-funding and pre-funding verification exercises at key health and training institutions across the state.
The exercise is aimed at assessing the utilization of funds provided by the Fund, verifying completed interventions and determining the needs of institutions seeking financial support.
The Executive Secretary of KHETFUND, Dr. Fatima Usman Zahradeen, led a post-funding verification team to the School of Hygiene, Kano, to assess the implementation and impact of the Fund’s 2026 Regular Health Intervention to the institution.
Speaking during the exercise, Dr. Zahradeen said the verification was necessary to ensure that funds released were used for their approved purposes and that the outcomes of the interventions corresponded with their intended objectives.
She advised the management of the School of Hygiene to nominate active academic staff for postgraduate and Master’s-level accreditation support, particularly those directly involved in teaching and training health professionals.
The Principal of the School, Jamilu Shu’aibu, said the KHETFUND intervention had contributed to the institution’s academic development by supporting accreditation and resource-verification exercises for its National Diploma programmes.
He said the support also facilitated final examinations for ND and HND programmes in Health Information Management and Environmental Health, adding that all ND programmes offered by the institution had now been integrated into the JAMB admission process.
The Principal disclosed that the institution recorded a 100 percent success rate in the accreditation exercise and subsequently handed over relevant accreditation documents to the KHETFUND Executive Secretary for review and documentation.
Similarly, KHETFUND conducted a pre-funding verification exercise at the Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital, Kano, following a request for financial support for the General Medicine Accreditation Exercise by the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria.
The verification team assessed proposed renovations covering three consultant offices, the Head of Department’s office and two doctors’ call rooms, with KHETFUND saying the exercise would guide its funding decision and ensure that proposed interventions are relevant, justified and aligned with approved priorities.
