The Hadejia-Jama’are River Basin Development Authority says it has reclaimed about 600,000 hectares of farmland belonging to the Authority from illegal occupants across Kano State.

The Managing Director of the Authority, Engineer Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, disclosed this at a ceremony where agricultural inputs and equipment were distributed to various categories of beneficiaries in the state.

Engineer Bichi explained that the reclaimed farmlands would be developed for irrigation farming as part of efforts to boost food production and contribute to the nation’s food security.

He also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as massive investment in infrastructure and development projects in Kano State.

According to him, the Federal Government’s interventions include the construction of the Northern Bypass Road, railway projects and the ongoing completion of the road linking Kano with the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Speaking on the empowerment programme, the Managing Director said about 600 young farmers had benefited from irrigation machines, while other beneficiaries received insect-spraying machines and motorcycles to support their agricultural activities.

Bichi said the initiative was aimed at empowering youths, improving agricultural productivity and creating opportunities for people to engage in farming and related businesses.

He urged the people of Kano State to support and vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for second terms in office during the forthcoming general elections.

Some of the beneficiaries commended Engineer Bichi for the empowerment initiative, describing it as a timely intervention that would enhance their agricultural activities.
