The Kano State Ministry for Public Procurement, Projects Monitoring and Evaluation, MPPPME, has expressed readiness to collaborate with professional bodies to strengthen engineering practice and improve public infrastructure delivery in the state.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Abdulrazak Haruna, stated this when he received a delegation of the National Institute of Water Engineers, NIWE, Kano Chapter, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Kano.
The NIWE delegation, led by its Kano Chapter Chairman, Ismail Garba, visited the Ministry to formally introduce the chapter and seek its support in advancing professional development and water engineering activities.
Ismail said stronger collaboration between the Institute, government ministries and other stakeholders was necessary to promote professional standards and ensure that water-related infrastructure projects were designed, executed and monitored in line with established engineering standards and best practices.
He requested the Ministry’s support in strengthening stakeholder engagement, facilitating capacity-building programmes for engineers and encouraging engineers working with the Ministry to register with the Institute.
The delegation also appealed for logistical support, including a vehicle, to facilitate the Institute’s professional activities and engagements.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary congratulated the Kano Chapter of NIWE and commended the delegation for formally engaging the Ministry.
He urged the Institute to uphold professionalism, integrity, technical excellence and ethical standards, stressing that continuous professional development and knowledge sharing were essential to keeping engineers abreast of emerging technologies and modern approaches to infrastructure delivery.
Abdulrazak assured the delegation that its requests would receive due consideration within existing government policies, available resources and administrative procedures.
He expressed the Ministry’s willingness to sustain constructive engagement with NIWE and other professional bodies to improve project planning, procurement, monitoring and evaluation, as well as overall infrastructure development in Kano State.
