The Kebbi State Police Command has recorded a major breakthrough in its sustained crackdown on the theft and vandalism of critical national infrastructure, with the recovery of a large quantity of stolen electricity service cables in Bunza Local Government Area.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman made this known in a statement issued to newsmen in Birnin Kebbi the capital.
He said the recovery, made on 25th August 2026 during a Police operation in the Kara Area of Bunza Town, followed concerns over the persistent vandalism of electricity infrastructure in the area, which has plunged several communities into darkness and disrupted the supply of electricity to residents.
According to the statement, police operatives recovered ten bundles and seven sacks of electricity service cables, while the suspect, Mustapha Abubakar, was arrested and subsequently arraigned before the court.
It adds that, the development underscores the Command’s resolve to dismantle the activities of individuals and criminal networks responsible for the theft and vandalism of public infrastructure, particularly those whose actions continue to undermine essential services and adversely affect communities.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Hadejia, has reaffirmed the Command’s determination to protect critical national assets and ensure that perpetrators face the full weight of the law, and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities.
