The Zamfara State Government has commenced the training of 250 teachers under the Global Standard Teacher Transformation Programme.
The training was part of a larger programme approved by Governor Dauda Lawal to train 1,000 teachers in four cohorts, with 250 teachers participating in each cohort.
Speaking at the flagging-off ceremony, Governor Dauda Lawal said the training was designed to strengthen the capacity of teachers, quality assurance evaluators and education administrators to improve teaching standards and learning outcomes across the state.
Represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Hajiya Maryam Yahaya Shantali, the governor explained that the participants would be exposed to international best practices in pedagogy, educational leadership, learner-centred instruction, digital learning, classroom management, assessment techniques, professional ethics and quality assurance.
Dr. Lawal stressed that, the success of the training would be measured by its impact after participants return to their respective schools and offices.
He also commended Noble Health Limited for partnering with the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to deliver the programme and acknowledged the contributions of the ministry’s management, agencies, development partners and other stakeholders.
The Governor urged the participants to see themselves as ambassadors of change, stressing that, the future of education in Zamfara State depends not only on government policies but also on the commitment, professionalism, integrity and willingness of education personnel to embrace innovation.
He expressed confidence that the initiative would contribute to building a modern, inclusive and resilient education system capable of providing children across the state with access to quality learning and opportunities to realise their full potential.
Governor Dauda Lawal further urged the participants to use the training to improve classroom instruction, school leadership, supervision and overall learning outcomes.
Ealier, the Executive Chairman, Zamfara State Senior Secondary Education Board, Alhaji Mohammed Aliyu Anka asked teachers across the state to embrace modern teaching methods and global best practices to improve learning outcomes.
He said teachers were not only instructors but also moulders of character, builders of society and architects of hope, adding that, the theme of the programme, Global Teacher Transformation, was timely, considering the rapid changes taking place in the education sector globally.
Aliyu Anka emphasized the need for the teachers to adopt learner-centred approaches, integrate technology into teaching, encourage creativity and rekindle their passion for the profession.
According to him, the Senior Secondary Education Board would continue to support policies and programmes aimed at organising, motivating and professionalising teaching in senior secondary schools and other levels of education.
Anka expressed optimism that the training would lead to improved learning outcomes, better performance in WAEC and NECO examinations, and the development of confident students capable of contributing positively to the development of Zamfara State and Nigeria.
