As part of efforts to ensure compliance with regulations guiding the activities of Masters of Ceremony (MCs) and event centres across Kano State, the Kano State Censorship Board has suspended all forms of the activity popularly known as the “After Party and Hot Challenge” during wedding ceremonies and other social events.

The Board says the decision followed the increasing trend of the practice, which it described as a western cultural influence that is gradually finding its way into wedding celebrations in the State.

The Public Relations Officer of the Board, Abdullahi Sani Sulaiman, said the Executive Secretary, Abba El-Mustapha, explained that the measure was taken to safeguard the cultural, moral and religious values of the people of Kano State.

He said the Board supports decent and responsible entertainment at weddings and other social gatherings, provided such activities promote morality, respect the State’s cultural heritage and conform to religious teachings.

The Board directed all event centres, Masters of Ceremony, event planners and other stakeholders involved in organising social events to comply fully with the directive, warning that anyone who violates the suspension will face sanctions in accordance with the law.

Chairman of the Kano Event Centres Owners and Planners Association, Kamal Mas’ud, described the decision as timely and pledged the association’s support for its implementation.

He urged event planners and event centre owners to sensitise their clients on the ban to ensure full compliance.

The Kano State Censorship Board also appealed to residents to support the enforcement of the directive by reporting any event centre or MC found organising or promoting the suspended activities within Kano State.
