The Jigawa State Executive Council has approved the establishment of two strategic committees aimed at strengthening the state’s financial framework and expanding its digital economy initiatives.

State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Alhaji Sagir Musa Ahmed, disclosed this to journalists after the State Executive Council meeting in Dutse.

He said the committees are expected to drive financial reforms and enhance the state’s digital footprint to promote efficiency and inclusive development.

According to him, the council approved the constitution of a committee to harmonise and integrate the Jigawa State Revenue Codification Law with the Corporate Plan of the Jigawa State Internal Revenue Service to boost internally generated revenue.

The Commissioner for Finance will serve as chairman of the committee, while the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning will serve as co-chairman.

Other members include the commissioners for Lands, Health, Higher Education, Local Government, Justice, Commerce, Information and Agriculture, as well as the Director-General of ICT and Digital Economy, the State Accountant-General, Director-General of Invest Jigawa and the Principal Private Secretary to the Governor.

The Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Board will serve as secretary of the committee.

Alhaji Sagir further disclosed that the council also approved the establishment of another committee to review a detailed proposal on the Digital Social Responsibility Programme.

He explained that the initiative was informed by the growing importance of the digital economy and the need to promote responsible online engagement among the state’s teeming youth and citizens.

Under the arrangement, the Commissioner for Information will chair the committee, while the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor will serve as secretary.

The State Executive Council has directed the Office of the Secretary to the State Government to develop detailed terms of reference for both committees to ensure immediate implementation.

It also mandated the committees to conclude their assignments and submit comprehensive reports within two weeks of their inauguration.
