House of Representatives says it will partner the Nigerian Customs Service in realizing the 1.67 Trillion Naira revenue projected in the 2021 financial year.

Chairman, House Committee on Customs, Mr. Leke Abajide stated this during the 2021 Budget Defence Session of the Nigerian Custom in Abuja.

Mr. Leke Babajide explained that government should release fund for the automation of Customs activities to block leakages and improve revenue generation.

Speaking during the budget Defence session, a Member from Katsina State, Alhaji Mukhtari Dandutse while attributing the insecurity in parts of the country to the influx of arms and ammunition urged customs to strengthen patrol on the nation’s porous borders.

In his submission, Comptroller General of Customs, Colonel Hamid Ibrahim Ali rtd urged the lawmakers to educate their constituents on the need to support the agency in meeting it’s constitutional duties.

The Committee will not reduce the target set to customs in 2020 given the improved financial activities as well as opening of border closed last year.
