Taraba State Police Command has arrested a suspect involved in a case of impersonation, fraud, and obtaining money by false pretence under the guise of being associated with the Office of the Executive Governor of Taraba State.
This was contained in a press release by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Victor Mshelizah.
“On the 12th May, 2026 at about 1130 hours, the Aide-de-Camp (ADC) to the Executive Governor of Taraba State, received credible information that certain unscrupulous individuals were using his name and office to tarnish his image and defraud unsuspecting politicians and members of the public within the state.
“Acting on the credible intelligence, security operatives immediately commenced an investigation to identify and apprehend those involved in the fraudulent activities.
“Following diligent investigation, one Seth Samuel Sule ‘m ’ of Magami Quarters, Jalingo LGA, Taraba State, was apprehended in connection with the offence.
“During interrogation, the suspect made a statement, admitting that sometime between the end of April 2026 and early May 2026, he used a GSM number to impersonate the Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Taraba State.
“The suspect further confessed to defrauding an individual of the sum of ₦1,320,000.00 (One Million, Three Hundred and Twenty Thousand Naira) under the false pretext of assisting the victim to lobby for the APC Federal House of Representatives ticket, which later turned out to be fraudulent.
“Investigation into the matter is ongoing, and the suspect will be charged in court.
“The Taraba State Police Command warns members of the public to be cautious of individuals who falsely claim to be government officials or associates of public office holders for fraudulent purposes.
“The Command further advised citizens to verify sensitive transactions and political claims through appropriate and official channels before making any payments or commitments.
“The Taraba State Police Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Morkwap Sebastian Dongshal, PSC (+), remains committed to combating all forms of fraud and criminality across the state.” The release concluded.
