Governor Umar Namadi of Jigawa State has expressed optimism that the ongoing review of Nigeria’s revenue allocation formula by the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission RMAFC will be guided by fairness, equity, and justice for all states and stakeholders.

The governor stated this while receiving a delegation from the commission led by Imo Effiong Akpan, the Federal Commissioner representing Akwa Ibom State, at Government House, Dutse.

The delegation was in Jigawa State to formally commence the nationwide data verification exercise being conducted across the federation as part of efforts to review the revenue allocation formula.

Governor Namadi described the exercise as timely and necessary considering the country’s changing socioeconomic realities, while commending the commission for initiating the process.

He expressed confidence that the exercise would be conducted fairly and in accordance with established standards, noting that previous attempts to review the allocation formula had failed to achieve the desired results.

The governor, however, expressed optimism that the current leadership of the commission would successfully complete the assignment due to its commitment and determination.

In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Hamisu Mohammed Gumel, the governor also assured the commission of the Jigawa State Government’s full support and cooperation throughout the exercise.

Earlier, Imo Effiong Akpan said the nationwide data verification exercise was aimed at ensuring that data used for revenue allocation accurately reflects current realities across the country.

He explained that changing population figures, infrastructure development, and other socioeconomic factors make periodic review and verification necessary to ensure fairness and equity in the distribution of national resources.

Akpan further assured the governor that the exercise would be conducted with professionalism, transparency, and objectivity in line with global best practices.
