Kaduna State House of Assembly has reiterated its commitment to improving workers’ welfare to enhance service efficiency and performance.
The Speaker of the Assembly, Yusuf Dahiru Liman, stated this in his message to the Annual General Meeting and Twentieth Anniversary of the Kaduna State Assembly Staff Investment Cooperative Society held in Kaduna.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Chairman of the Kaduna State Legislative Service Commission, Nuhu Goroh Shadalafiya, commended the foresight behind the establishment of the cooperative, describing it as a platform that promotes mutual support among members.
Shadalafiya also emphasized the importance of savings and investment during active service, noting that such financial discipline would enable members to acquire landed property and take advantage of other opportunities after retirement.
Also, the Clerk of the Kaduna State House of Assembly Assembly, Barrister Sakinatu Hassan Idris encouraged civil servants to imbibe the culture of savings and investments to cater for their lives while serving and after retirement.
In his remarks, the President of the Kaduna State House of Assembly Cooperative and Investment Society, Hon. Sambo Yakubu, stated that the society has consistently upheld the principles of its establishment. He disclosed that dividends have been declared and paid continuously over the past two decades.
According to him, the cooperative prioritizes members’ welfare and financial security by providing access to loans for personal and economic needs, thereby helping members build financial stability and plan for the future.
Yakubu further highlighted that the society has empowered many members to build houses, acquire land and other properties, purchase vehicles and motorcycles, pay school fees, and invest in agriculture and various business ventures.
Delivering a lecture on the theme “Cooperative: Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World,” the guest speaker, Hajiya Sa’adatu Ahmed Gusau, noted that cooperative societies play a vital role in improving the living standards of workers both during service and after retirement.
She called on cooperatives to embrace mentorship initiatives and adopt digital operations in order to meet global standards. Gusau also stressed that inadequate cooperative education often leads members to view dividends as the sole objective, underscoring the need for efficient service delivery and member-focused programmes.
